ABOUT
The Seedboat’s name, given by the space's previous owner Alan Spragens, represents the seed of enlightened mind that every person has within them. When you cultivate the seed, it becomes a boat you can sail across the great ocean of confusion, navigating the rocky shores of neurotic fixation, to realize the state of enlightenment.
From the American Southwest to the East, many cultures center around the understanding that enlightenment is not just an individual pursuit but a communal one, built on shared values, traditions, and the collective striving for a good life. This realization came as new co-owners Jennifer Olson and Brent Steinberg mused on the meaning of The Seedboat’s name and focused the vision for a beautiful and beloved space in downtown Silver City.
Drawing on our own experiences, we dreamed up a sort of community house, where Grant County residents and visitors can together work, play, and learn together, moving toward a state of enlightenment while maintaining harmony within each person’s own heart and soul as well as within the greater region and world.
The Seedboat Collective blends coworking with playhouse and social club and is anchored by an active membership and sprinkled with a dash of enrichment programming and performance arts. We’re keeping the vision broad and will adjust as community needs come to light and as opportunities arise. Our decisions are values-based and made with consideration toward what will best grow community and also support people in leading balanced lives that include work, play, enrichment, celebrations, and everyday social connections.
The coworking space in the west suite engages key leaders and thinkers. Monthly memberships and day passes are suited to remote workers, solopreneurs, freelancers, and community organizers. The 2,500 square feet of indoor space is outfitted with four private offices, a dozen dedicated desks, two meeting rooms, and community tables offering 16 open seats. This allows a membership of at least 48 professionals, if we operate with a 2:1 ratio for our hot desks.
Enrichment programs and special events are offered in the performing arts space in the east suite. A 2,000-square-foot courtyard is offered as an event venue year-round.
